The Northwest Fire Region has seen new wildfire activity, with one fire confirmed on the evening of July 29, and six additional fires confirmed by early evening on July 30.
- Red Lake 11 (RED011): Located 19.5 km east of the Manitoba border near Little Gorman Lake, this 100-hectare fire is currently being observed.
- Red Lake 12 (RED012): Situated 18.2 km west of Pikangikum First Nation within Weeskayjahk Ohtahzhoganeeng Provincial Park, this fire is being held at 2.3 hectares.
- Red Lake 13 (RED013): Located 25.4 km southwest of Pikangikum First Nation in the same provincial park, this 0.3-hectare fire is not yet under control.
- Red Lake 14 (RED014): Situated 16.5 km east of the Manitoba border and 7.0 km south of Burnt Lake, this fire has grown to 530 hectares and remains uncontrolled.
- Sioux Lookout 15 (SLK015): A remote fire 37.6 km northwest of Severn River Provincial Park near Swan Lake, this 60-hectare fire is being observed.
- Sioux Lookout 16 (SLK016): Located near the Far North boundary of the Sioux Lookout sector, approximately 48.7 km north-northwest of Severn River Provincial Park, this fire spans 600 hectares and is also under observation.
- Thunder Bay 13 (SLK013): A small 0.1-hectare fire on an island in Loch Lomond, 2.0 km outside Fort William First Nation, remains uncontrolled.
As of this update, there are 16 active wildfires in the Northwest Region at various stages of control. Of these, 1 fire is under control, 1 is being held, 3 are not under control, and the remainder are being observed.
Fire Hazard and Safety Advisories
The wildfire hazard in the Northwest Region ranges from low to high. The southern half of the region is mostly low to moderate, with isolated high-risk areas. The northern half is experiencing mostly moderate to high hazard levels.
Stay Clear of Waterbombers
If you see waterbombers approaching a body of water, please move close to the shore to allow them to scoop safely. Waterbombers will avoid scooping from lakes or rivers if watercraft pose a safety hazard. Your cooperation is crucial for fire-fighting efforts.
