THUNDER BAY – 104 cars later, the DeBrusk/Mr. Lube and Camp Quality families pack it up for another successful car wash. For anyone listening to CKPR radio on the afternoon of Friday the 13th, you may have heard about the $50 hotdog at Mr. Lube. That’s right a $50 hotdog is what one inspired customer chose to pay in support of Camp Quality.

Until July 22nd, you are getting a chance to be on the inside of Camp Quality Northwestern Ontario (CQNWO) by following this daily blog.

By the time this writer got home yesterday, she couldn’t lift her arms to type.

Lots of sun and her hand in washing some of the cars/trucks and motorcycles that passed through the parking lot at Mr. Lube’s Arthur Street location made for an exhausting day. Twenty- five volunteers were very busy, but after raising close to $900 it was very worth it.

The DeBrusk family and Mr. Lube have raised over $30,000 for Camp Quality over the years through an oil drop campaign and various specials, a BBQ, and this annual carwash. This year their son Braydon also collected $120 at his April birthday party instead of gifts to add to the total. Son Dawson started collecting extra donations at the event BBQ each year and this year along with his brother continued the tradition. This amount will be presented to CQNWO later, including the $50 bill for that delicious hotdog.

The event was again dedicated to Claudia Gagalo.

Claudia was a CQNWO camper for many years and very sadly was taken by cancer in 2011. For all of us who knew her, we remember how gregarious she was and how she loved coming to the Mr. Lube car wash to collect donations, chill out with everyone while her Dad busily washed cars. She is among our Angels, which is what does make our involvement heart wrenching, but is really our reason for existing . Our motto is after all ‘lifting the spirits of children with cancer’.

The people supporting us yesterday, in some cases, were new comers to our cause, others have been involved for years. One of the Harleys that we shined up yesterday belongs to a member of the Thunder Bay H.O.G. Group.

They will be venturing out to our camp on Wednesday Juth 18th for their annual visit. More on that visit later this week.

Till tomorrow when we talk about, “What does one pack when going to Camp Quality”.
