Wildfire Report

Summary: As of early evening, there was one new wildland fire confirmed in the Northeast Fire Region. There are currently five active wildland fires being managed by Aviation, Forest Fire, and Emergency Services.

New Confirmations:

  • Sault Ste. Marie 6 (SAU006): A 0.1-hectare fire confirmed on Monday afternoon in Batchawana Bay Provincial Park next to Highway 17. This fire is now out.

Ongoing Fires:

  • Sudbury 14 (SUD014): A 0.1-hectare fire, confirmed on Sunday evening, is now under control. Located northeast of Lake Panache, about 18 km east of Espanola, with one FireRanger crew assigned.
  • Sault Ste. Marie 5 (SAU005): A 0.7-hectare fire, now under control, located 5 km west of Goulais River Provincial Park.
  • Sudbury 13 (SUD013): A 2.8-hectare fire, under control, situated 9 km north of Killarney, along the shore west of Killarney Provincial Park. Two FireRanger crews are committed.
  • Cochrane 8 (COC008): A 35-hectare fire currently being observed, located 57.5 km northwest of Moosonee.
  • Cochrane 9 (COC009): A 6,022-hectare fire being observed, located east of Parson Lake, 8 km west of the Quebec border.

Fire Hazard Status:

  • The fire hazard ranges from low to moderate across most of the Northeast Region, with high hazard pockets in McKellar, Dunchurch, Magnetawan, Cartier, and areas west of Hearst, north of Kapuskasing, and the Far North.

Safety Tips:

  • Waterbombers: Move close to the shore when waterbombers approach to allow safe scooping from lakes or rivers. Encroaching watercraft pose a safety hazard.
  • Drones: Flying drones near forest fires is dangerous and illegal. It endangers pilots, firefighters, and other emergency personnel.

  • North of French and Mattawa Rivers: Dial 310-FIRE.
  • South of French or Mattawa Rivers: Dial 9-1-1.
