Northeast Region
As of early evening on Sunday, June 2, two new wildland fires have been confirmed in the Northeast Fire Region, bringing the total number of active wildland fires to four.
Current Fire Status:
- Cochrane 9 (COC009): This fire spans 30 hectares and is currently not under control. It is located approximately 3 kilometres east of Parson Lake and 8 kilometres west of the Quebec border.
- Sault Ste. Marie 4 (SAU004): This 0.1-hectare fire was confirmed and extinguished on June 2. It was situated along Lake Superior and Highway 17, about 19 kilometres northwest of Batchawana Bay.
- Cochrane 8 (COC008): Covering 35 hectares, this fire is being observed and is located around 57.5 kilometres northwest of Moosonee.
- Cochrane 6 (COC006): Remapped to 13 hectares and is currently being held. Located 20 kilometres northwest of Fort Severn off the coast of Hudson Bay, it has one Ontario FireRanger crew and a Coastal Ranger assigned.
- North Bay 5 (NOR005): This 106-hectare fire remains under control and is situated about 3 kilometres southeast of Cobalt.
Fire Hazard: The fire hazard varies from moderate to high across the Northeast Fire Region, with conditions being low from the Greater Sudbury area to the eastern half of Manitoulin Island.

Help Fight Forest Fires: Stay Clear of Waterbombers!
- When waterbombers approach a body of water, move close to the shore so they can perform their scoop safely. A waterbomber will not scoop from a lake or river if encroaching watercraft pose a safety hazard. Be safe, stay clear of waterbombers.
No Drone Zone: Be Safe, Stay Clear of Forest Fires!
- Flying drones around forest fires is both dangerous and illegal. When you fly a drone near a forest fire, you can put the lives of pilots, firefighters, and other emergency personnel at risk. Be safe, stay clear of forest fires.
