Ontario Government to announce support for Thunder Bay Flood victims

THUNDER BAY – Kathleen Wynne, Ontario’s Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, will make an important announcement about the province’s response to the recent flooding. She will be joined by Michael Gravelle, MPP Thunder Bay-Superior North, and Bill Mauro, MPP Thunder Bay-Atikokan.

The announcement is expected to be that Thunder Bay has been declared a disaster area, and thereby is opened up for matching funding from Ontario, and then from the federal government.

The announcement will take place on Date: Friday, June 8, 2012 at 11:00EDT at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church at 615 Connolly Street.

New Democratic Party leader Andrea Horwath will be in Thunder Bay on Friday. The NDP leader responded to Thunder Bay Mayor Keith Hobbs on the Tuesday after flood waters submerged the water pumping station.

Horwath will visit the Randall home devastated by the flood at 636 McPherson, and then at 12:00EDT she will visit the Salvation Army Community Response Team at St Peter’s Church.

In the afternoon, the NDP Leader will meet with Mayor Hobbs and then later in the afternoon tour the pumping station.
