THUNDER BAY – NEWS – In a crackdown on drug trafficking and illegal firearm possession, three individuals have been apprehended in Thunder Bay, following a thorough investigation led by the Provincial Joint Forces Guns and Gangs Enforcement Team (PGNG).
This operation was a collaborative effort involving Thunder Bay Police Service, Nishnawbe Aski Police Service, and the Ontario Provincial Police to tackle the influx of criminal activities spearheaded by individuals from the Greater Toronto Area.
Joint Forces Operation Nets Significant Seizure
Initiated in January 2024, the PGNG’s diligent investigation culminated in the execution of a search warrant on March 7, 2024, at a residence located on Brock Street East.
This move led to the seizure of a significant cache of narcotics and weaponry, including over 200 grams of fentanyl, more than 100 grams of cocaine, nearly 170 grams of crack cocaine, a handgun, 15 rounds of ammunition, five cell phones, over $5,000 in Canadian currency, and various drug trafficking paraphernalia.
Charges Laid Against Individuals for Drug Trafficking
The operation has resulted in 15 charges being laid against three accused, including Crystal Anderson, 37, of Thunder Bay, and Damien Thompson, 29, of Scarborough, facing multiple counts related to drug trafficking and possession of proceeds of crime. Additionally, a 17-year-old from Brampton has been charged with similar offences, alongside charges related to weapon possession for a dangerous purpose and carrying a concealed weapon.
The Role of PGNG in Combating Street Gangs
The successful execution of this operation sheds light on the vital role of the PGNG in disrupting the activities of criminal street gangs that are increasingly extending their operations into communities across Ontario.
By conducting intelligence-led, multi-jurisdictional drug trafficking investigations, the team is pivotal in reducing the circulation of illegal firearms and enhancing community safety throughout the province.
All accused are set to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay at a later date, as the local community and law enforcement continue to stand united against the spread of criminal activities and strive for a safer Thunder Bay.
