NNL-FloodandRecoveryTHUNDER BAY – Rain in the forecast could put a heavy strain on the city’s current capacity according to Darrell Matson. Efforts toward conservation of water is working, “The reduction efforts are very much appreciated,” commented Matson.

Mayor Hobbs said, “On behalf of City Council I want to thank the residents for their water conservation efforts”.

There will be a further update on Monday on plant capacity. The forecast including thundershowers on Friday and possible thunder storms on Sunday and into Monday have the city’s concern level raised. Current capacity is about two thirds of the usual capacity as the city works to get more pumps on line.

“We are seeing positive progress, and the City has submitted an application to the province seeking the city be declared a disaster area”.

“There should be an announcement by the end of the week,” stated Hobbs.

The Canada Games Complex will be re-opening shortly, likely on Monday. As other city facilities started to re-open on Wednesday.

There were 460 homeowners who originally contacted the city over flooding issues.

The city is working to make homes safe, and to make sure that health and safety issues are being addressed.

The Red Cross is taking a greater role in the recovery.

There are more people who are moving out of their flood stricken homes.

There are 113 volunteers on the ground, and it is a very large operation according to the organization.
