JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – In front of a raucous Friday night crowd in Jacksonville, Florida, the top bull riders in the world showed up and showed out. John Crimber (Decatur, Texas), Cody Jesus (Window Rock, Arizona) and Dalton Kasel (Muleshoe, Texas) led the field of 20 riders who reached the requisite 8, tying for the Round 1 win at the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Unleash The Beast’s U.S. Border Patrol PBR Jacksonville inside VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena.

Crimber, Jesus and Kasel were three of 20 riders to deliver a qualified ride in Round 1 as the competing contingent rode a torrid 54.05% (20-for-37) of their bovine athlete opponents.

For 18-year-old phenom Crimber, rumored to be the top pick in the upcoming 2024 PBR Camping World Team Series New Rider Draft, he began the night awarded a re-ride. With a renewed shot at victory, Crimber climbed atop the chutes as he readied to take on Flatliner (Blake Sharp/Henry Wilson). Nodding with confidence, Crimber remained in perfect time with the bull, reaching the whistle for 87 points.

Kasel, who rides for the Austin Gamblers in the separate PBR Teams league, and Jesus, a member of the 2023 PBR Teams Champion Texas Rattlers, also delivered matching 87-point rides earlier in the evening. They covered Mama’s Boy (Universal Pro Rodeo/Rachel & Dustin Powell/Delmas/Williams) andCalhoun Oil (Blake Sharp/CB & Traci Lee), respectively.

Each member of the trio netted 21 Unleash The Beast points.

For Crimber, he gained ground on No. 1 Cassio Dias (Sao F. de Sales, Brazil), who was bucked off in an uncharacteristic 1.46 seconds by Big Worm (Berryman/Coleman/Ogden/Hart). Crimber solidified his No. 3 rank in the race for the 2024 PBR World Championship, climbing within 414 points of No. 1 Dias.

Jesus rose from No. 7 to No. 6 in the Unleash The Beast World Championship standings, pulling within 527.83 points of the top spot, while Kasel also rose one position from No. 9 to No. 8, now 540.83 points back.

Elsewhere in the Top 10 of the Unleash The Beast standings, the Kansas City Outlaws’ Koltin Hevalow (Smithville, Missouri) rose from No. 5 to No. 4 after he tied for tenth in the opening round. His 85-point ride atop Whiplash (Blake Sharp/Floyd Lowry/CB & Traci Lee) netted him 9 Unleash The Beast points.

Hevalow is now within 496.83 points of fellow Kansas City Outlaw and No. 1 Dias.

Returning to the top of the event leaderboard, young gun Clay Guiton (Cherryville, North Carolina) and the Carolina Cowboys’ Dawson Branton(Jefferson, Oregon) tied for fifth.

Both marked 86.5 points and collecting 15.5 Unleash The Beast points, Guiton dominated Rowdy (Ogden Ranch/Hart Cattle Co.), while Branton conquered Stone Cold (Tex Brothers Ranch/5S Bucking Bulls).

In the standings, Guiton rose one spot from No. 20 to No. 19, while Branton also climbed one position from No. 43 to No. 42.

The 2024 U.S. Border Patrol PBR Jacksonville will conclude with Round 2 and the championship round on Saturday, Feb. 24. Action gets underway at 6:45 p.m. EST.
