THUNDER BAY – The Ministry of Natural Resources, the Ontario Provincial Police and Ontario Power Generation (OPG) are continuing to remind people to stay away from the areas of the Kaministiquia River between Dog Lake and Kakabeka Falls. The MNR and OPG are continuing to monitor the high water levels currently existing on the Kaministiquia Watershed.

As a result of the recent heavy rainfall in the area, water levels and flows on Dog Lake and the Kaministiquia River Watershed will continue to remain higher than normal for the next several days. There is a potential for flooding of the Silver Falls Road and areas along the Kaministiquia River between Dog Lake and Kakabeka Falls if the area experiences additional rainfall in the next few days. Caution is advised when using the Silver Falls Road.

OPG’s facilities on the Kaministiquia River Watershed are in safe condition.

Water flows and levels can become dangerous very quickly and without notice, particularly during periods of significant rainfall. People should stay clear of waterways during this period. The agencies will continue to work together to monitor the situation. Updates will be issued as warranted.
