BlendJet is issuing a recall for 117,286 portable blenders in Canada and 4.8 million in the United States, citing concerns of laceration and fire hazards following numerous injury reports.
According to a recall notice from Health Canada, the recalled BlendJet 2 Portable Blenders are at risk of overheating or catching fire, and there have been instances of the blender’s blades breaking off during use.
As of December 14, the company has received one report of a fire and approximately 10 reports of metal blades breaking in Canada. However, no injuries have been reported in Canada so far.
Beyond Canada, the company has received around 319 reports of blades breaking during use and 16 reports of overheating or fires, leading to property damage claims totaling approximately US $150,000. In the U.S., injuries include reports of roughly 49 minor burns and one minor laceration.
In collaboration with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Health Canada is advising consumers to cease using the recalled BlendJet 2 Portable Blenders immediately and to contact BlendJet for a complimentary replacement of the base unit.
The recall encompasses units in various colors with serial numbers beginning with the digits 5201 to 5542, sold between approximately October 2020 and August 2023.
BlendJet, headquartered in California, has clarified that BlendJet 2 blenders presently offered for sale on the company’s website and through retail partners are not impacted by the recall.
