THUNDER BAY – SPORTS – Our very own Thunder Bay U18AA Mallon’s Play it Again Sports Queens faced off in a nail-biting championship game against the formidable Mississauga Hurricanes in Kitchener!
As the puck dropped, the atmosphere was electric, with both teams locked in a fierce battle. The first period was a defensive masterclass, with neither team able to break the deadlock.
But hold onto your seats, because the game was about to heat up!
In the second period, the Hurricanes managed to sneak one past the Queens, thanks to an inadvertent redirection, taking a slender 1-0 lead. Our Queens, oh they fought valiantly, creating chance after chance, but the Mississauga goaltender stood tall, turning away every shot with incredible agility.
Moving into the third period, the intensity on the ice was palpable. Mississauga added an insurance marker, widening their lead. But folks, let me tell you, the Queens were relentless, peppering the Hurricanes’ goal with a whopping 32 shots. The determination, the spirit, it was all there!
Despite a late surge and an empty net strategy, the Queens faced a tough 4-0 final score. But here’s the silver lining – our U18AA Queens take home the silver medal from this prestigious 40-team tournament, representing the crème de la crème of North American U18AA teams!
