FORT FRANCES – Regional News – The Rainy River District Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has successfully apprehended an individual in connection with a break-and-enter case. This follows an incident on November 19, 2023, where a local business on Scott Street in Fort Frances was targeted.
Arrest and Charges
Alex WOCKNITZ, 27, of Fort Frances, faces significant charges under the Criminal Code, including:
- Break and Enter to Commit an Indictable Offence: This charge implies unauthorized entry into a place with the intent to commit a crime. Upon conviction, it can lead to imprisonment for life if the place is a dwelling-house, or a maximum of 10 years for other properties.
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000: This involves having property obtained by criminal means, with a value less than $5,000. Conviction can result in up to 2 years imprisonment if proceeded by indictment, or 6 months if by summary conviction.

WOCKNITZ has been released from custody and is scheduled for a court appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Fort Frances on January 8, 2024. The legal process will unfold, determining the extent of the charges and appropriate penalties.
