THUNDER BAY – NEWS – In a significant drug bust, Thunder Bay Police Service officers apprehended two suspects from Toronto after seizing a substantial quantity of suspected cocaine and a firearm during a search at a northside residence.
Incident Details: Ongoing Drug Trafficking Investigation
On Thursday, October 5, just before noon, officers from the Thunder Bay Police Service’s Intelligence Unit executed a search warrant at a residence in the 500 block of Faircrest Street. The search was a part of an ongoing investigation into drug trafficking activities.
Arrests and Seizures
Upon entering the premises, police arrested two suspects, who were subsequently transported to the TBPS headquarters at 1200 Balmoral Street. The search of the home resulted in the discovery and seizure of suspected crack cocaine, cash, and drug paraphernalia typically associated with drug trafficking.
Firearm and Cash Seized
Additionally, law enforcement officers located and confiscated a handgun and a Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW) during the search. The total estimated street value of the seized drugs is approximately $11,500 CAD, and the confiscated cash amounts to over $5,000 CAD.
Charges and Court Proceedings
Mckhaila MCKENZIE, 25, from Toronto, faces the following charges:
- Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking
- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
- Possession of Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon (x3)
Keyon Shakean SMITH, 26, also from Toronto, is charged with:
- Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking
- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
- Possession of Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon (x3)
Both suspects appeared in bail court in Thunder Bay on Friday, October 6. They have been remanded into custody with future appearance dates scheduled. Thunder Bay Police Service continues to crack down on drug-related offences, emphasizing public safety and community welfare.
