Nashville Stampede closer Silvano Alves records 500th career ride as his team upsets the No. 1 Austin Gamblers, thwarting their quest to clinch a second consecutive regular-season league title

FORT WORTH, Texas – The Texas Rattlers began their second annual PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Camping World Team Series homestand in Fort Worth in captivating form, winning bull riding’s Red River Showdown with a shutout win against the Oklahoma Freedom to remain in the hunt for a first-round bye at the league’s October Championship.
On the opening night of the last event of the 2023 Teams season, the Rattlers outscored the Freedom by 262.75 points. Brady Fielder and Trace Redd delivered early scores, leading Texas to clinch the game win in the fourth, while Cody Jesus added to the team’s margin of victory in the fifth.
The win not only started Texas 1-0 at their PBR Rattler Days, presented by Ariat, homestand, but more importantly improved their season record to 14-12. Within two games of the No. 2 Kansas City Outlaws, the Rattlers remain in the hunt for a first-round bye at the PBR Camping World Team Series Championship, Oct. 20-22 in Las Vegas. To clinch the bye, Texas needs to win their remaining two games, coupled with consecutive Kansas City losses.
The Rattlers will look to continue their winning ways when their homestand resumes on Saturday in a Lone Star State showdown against the league No. 1 Austin Gamblers.
Oklahoma left Dickies Arena Friday evening with a 0-1 event record and 13-13 season record. The defeat also eliminated them from contention for the two coveted Championship byes. Oklahoma will look to rebound when they next play the Arizona Ridge Riders.
The night also featured the chance for the Austin Gamblers to clinch their second-consecutive regular-season No. 1 rank. A Gamblers win or a Kansas City loss would have delivered the team their back-to-back title.
Kansas City was the first to take to the chutes, competing in the second game of the evening inside Dickies Arena as they played the Arizona Ridge Riders. Fresh off their event-winning, 3-0 effort the weekend prior in Glendale, Arizona, the Outlaws continued to ride lights out, defeating Arizona by two ride scores, 262.5-89.75.
While Kansas City trailed following the first frame, as Nick Tetz delivered Arizona’s lone score of the game, scores from Sandro Batista in the second, Bob Mitchell in the fourth and closer Cassio Dias in the fifth delivered them the come-from-behind win. Dias’s 86.75-point score on Skippy also kept his hopes of winning the 2023 PBR Teams MVP title alive, pulling within a then-83.5-points of leader Jose Vitor Leme.
Kansas City, who improved to 16-10 throughout the season and 1-0 at PBR Rattler Days, presented by Ariat, kept their hopes of making a come-from-behind surge to the regular-season No. 1 rank alive, but their chance could quickly be extinguished in the very next game.
After watching Kansas City throttle Arizona by two ride scores, Austin took to the chutes for their showdown against the league’s reigning Champion Nashville Stampede, the very team that upset them in the second round of the 2022 PBR Teams Championship.
Nashville again rode in seemingly unstoppable form, going a near-perfect 4-for-5, to thrash Austin 342.25-88 and upset the Gamblers for the second time this season. Nashville clinched the game win early by beginning the game with three consecutive qualified rides from Chase Outlaw, Mason Moody and Kaiden Loud, matched with three-straight buckoffs by Austin.
The game, however, ended in dramatic form. In the fifth frame, after Austin’s closer Leme rode Whiplash for a game-best 88 points, growing his MVP lead back to 171.5 points, he was jerked toward the bull, knocked out, and left motionless on the dirt, ultimately carried out by PBR’s sports medicine team. As the crowd awaited an update on Leme, Nashville’s closer Silvano Alves made history, becoming just the fourth rider in history to deliver 500 qualified rides in premier PBR competition as he topped True Religion for 84.75 points.
The loss prevented Austin, who slipped to 18-8 in 2023 and 0-1 inside Dickies Arena, from clinching the regular-season No. 1 title Friday evening in Fort Worth, while also keeping Kansas City’s title hopes alive.
Awaiting the squads on Saturday are a pair of in-state rivalry games, as Austin readies to play the host Texas Rattlers and Kansas City prepares to take on the Missouri Thunder. Austin needs either a win or a Kansas City loss to clinch the regular-season title, while Kansas City needs a win of their own paired with an Austin loss to keep their chances of clinching a bye alive.
Arizona, who fell to Kansas City, left Dickies Arena Friday evening with a 12-14 overall record and 0-1 event record ahead of their Saturday showdown against the Oklahoma Freedom.
Nashville’s win against the Gamblers improved their season record to 10-16 and event record to 1-0 as they get ready to take on the Carolina Cowboys.

Carolina is now 1-0 at PBR Rattler Days, presented by Ariat, and 11-15 this season, while Missouri is 0-1 at the Texas event and 8-18 this season. They play the Nashville Stampede and Kansas City Outlaws, respectively, when gameplay continues.

Following the pancake breakfast, Alley Rally attendees will be able to take in the Rattler Days parade at 11:30 a.m. in the Stockyards following the iconic cattle drive, followed by viewing parties from 12-5 p.m. on the West side of the East Exchange Building lawns for that day’s key college football matchups.

As the opening night of competition for the final regular-season PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Camping World Team Series event got underway in Fort Worth, Texas, the Carolina Cowboys rebounded in resilient form, snapping a five-game losing streak by defeating the shut-out Missouri Thunder by two ride scores. In the first frame, it was Joao Lucas Campos (Porto Feliz, Brazil) out for Missouri and 2016 PBR World Champion Cooper Davis (Jasper, Texas) in the leadoff role for Carolina. Campos nodded his head with confidence aboard White Face (Flying S/Pedra Bucking Bulls), and while he was initially called for a qualified ride in arena, upon official review by the league, he was deemed to have bucked off at a heartbreaking 7.88 seconds.
Carolina capitalized on the Missouri stumble in the bottom of the frame. Davis remained in perfect time with Falcon Eddie (Lari Crane/Gene Owen), reaching the requisite 8 to improve to 14-for-24 on the season and give the Cowboys an early 88.5-point lead.
The scoreboard then went unchanged through both the second and third, with Eduardo Matos (Emilianópolis, Brazil) and Kade Madsen (Honeyville, Utah) tossed for Missouri and Dawson Branton (Jefferson, Oregon) and Boudreaux Campbell (Crockett, Texas) failing to convert for Carolina. The back-to-back scoreless frames set up a high-pressure conclusion to the game. In the top of the fourth, Missouri looked toQynn Andersen (Koumala, Queensland, Australia) to right their team’s momentum. While the young Aussie initially appeared centered atop Hunted Down (Martinez Bucking Bulls, LLC), he was quickly unseated, hitting the ground in 3.57 seconds.
The buckoff gave Carolina the chance to clinch the win early in the bottom of the frame. In the potentially victory-delivering out was Trey Kimzey (Strong, Oklahoma) aboard Snap Chatter (Flying S Bucking Bulls/Dozier). Kimzey, however, proved no match for the powerful animal athlete, bested in 4.88 seconds.
With a renewed shot of victory, it was win or go home for Missouri in the top of the fifth. The Thunder’s closer Andrew Alvidrez (Seminole, Texas) erupted from the chutes atop JAG Metals Hard Way (Paige Stout Bucking Bulls/Philip Elkins). One jump out of the gate, Alvidrez was hurled to the ground in a swift 2.98 seconds, cementing the win for Carolina and dealing Missouri their 10th shutout loss of the season.
With the win in hand, Trevor Kastner (Ardmore, Oklahoma) punctuated the Cowboys’ efforts with a qualified ride, extending their margin of victory to 177.25 points as he teamed with Bootlegger (Flinn Cattle Co.) for a game-best 88.75 points. The win snapped Carolina’s five-game losing streak, improving them to 11-15 this season and 1-0 at PBR Rattler Days, presented by Ariat. The Thunder slipped to 0-1 inside Dickies Arena and are now 8-18 this season.

Kansas City Outlaws Continue Red-Hot Momentum, Earning Fourth-Consecutive Game Win by Defeating the Arizona Ridge Riders in Opening Game of PBR Camping World Team Series Event in Fort Worth, Texas

Fresh off their event win in Glendale, Arizona, the Kansas City Outlaws continued to ride red-hot as the final regular-season PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Camping World Team Series event got underway in Fort Worth, Texas, earning their fourth-straight game win as they defeated the Arizona Ridge Riders by two ride scores. As the game readied to begin, Kansas City’s hopes of being the league’s regular-season No. 1 remained alive; they needed to defeat Arizona and the Austin Gamblers to lose their game against the Nashville Stampede. In the leadoff role for the Outlaws was Leonardo Castro Ferreira (Cassilandia, Brazil).
After being put on the clock by PBR’s officials, Ferreira nodded his head with just 3 seconds remaining on the clock. While he fought to make the 8 atop Blacklist (Paige Stout Bucking Bulls), he ultimately hit the ground in 5.98 seconds. In the bottom of the first, reigning PBR Canada Champion Nick Tetz (Calgary, Alberta, Canada) quickly delivered for Arizona, giving his team an early 89.75-point lead as he delivered his third consecutive qualified ride and tenth of the season, converting atop Doze You Down (Dozier Cattle Co./Martinez Bucking Bulls).
Kansas City wouldn’t remain shut out for long. In the top of the second, Sandro Batista (Pedra Preta, Brazil) rode Shew Bubby (Shuler Bucking Bulls) for 87.25 points to pull the Outlaws within 2.5 points of the lead. Arizona was unable to continue their momentum in the bottom of the second, failing to grow their lead when Eduardo Aparecido (Gouvelandia, Brazil) was upended in a quick 3.39 seconds by Sava (Risen Cattle Co./Blue Ridge).
Kansas City then had the chance to take their first lead of the game in the top of the third as Wingson Henrique da Silva (Naviraí, Brazil) climbed aboard Kodiac (Flying S/Kasel). Silva proved no match for the bull, bucked off in 5.8 seconds. In the bottom of the middle round of outs, Arizona was awarded a re-ride after Chase Dougherty (Decatur, Texas) couldn’t get out of the chutes on Leroy (Dennis & Jan Owens).
In the crucial fourth frame, it was Bob Mitchell (Steelville, Missouri) out for Kansas City and Vitor Losnake (Bauru, Brazil) up for Arizona. Mitchell answered the call for Kansas City, giving his team their first lead of the game by a margin of 86 points as he dominated Moonlight Party (Jane Clark/Gene Owen) for a commanding 88.5 points. Losnake then looked to reclaim the lead for his team but couldn’t crack the code aboard Norse God (Jane Clark/Gene Owen), bested in 5.7 seconds.
In the fifth, Kansas City looked to Cassio Dias (São F. de Sales, Brazil) to give them a two-bull lead in his showdown with Skippy (Skippy & Linda Johnson/Hookin’ W Ranch). Dias delivered for his team, reaching the whistle for 86.75 points. The score increased Kansas City’s lead to 172.75 points and kept Dias’s hopes of the season MVP title alive, as he briefly pulled within 83.5 points of No. 1 Jose Vitor Leme (Ribas do Rio Pardo, Brazil).
Arizona then faced a must-ride position in the bottom of the fifth with closer Keyshawn Whitehorse (McCracken Spring, Utah) tasked with Thunderstruck (Risen Cattle Co./Blue Ridge). Erupting from the chutes, Whitehorse appeared in control but was thrust to the ground in a heartbreaking 7.06 seconds, clinching the Kansas City win. Arizona concluded the game with their re-ride opportunity as Leandro Machado (Nova Esperanca, Brazil) was bucked off in 3.01 seconds by Cliff Hanger (Pioneer Bulls/McCoy Rodeo).
When the dust settled, Kansas City improved to 1-0 at PBR Rattler Days, presented by Ariat, and 16-10 this season via the 262.5-89.75 win against the Arizona Ridge Riders. The reigning PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Teams Champion Nashville Stampede were white-hot Friday night in Fort Worth, Texas, as the Camping World Team Series’ regular-season finale got underway, upsetting the league No. 1 Austin Gamblers by three ride scores, including closer Silvano Alves’s (Pilar do Sul, Brazil) historic 500th qualified ride in premier PBR competition.
While the Gamblers entered the showdown with a first-round bye to the PBR Teams Championship locked up, they had yet to clinch the regular-season title, one win away from cementing the coveted No. 1 rank. Standing between them and the regular-season title was Nashville, the very team who upset them in the second round of the 2022 PBR Teams Championship. The game in the Lone Star State began quickly, with Ramon de Lima (Rio Branco, Brazil) tasked with Red Demon (Universal Pro Rodeo/Rachel & Dustin Powell) as the Gamblers’ opener.
While Lima was initially called for a qualified ride in the arena, upon review by PBR’s officials, he was deemed to have bucked off in a heartbreaking 7.64 seconds. Nashville, however, began the game with a bang. Chase Outlaw (Hamburg, Arkansas) dominated Tijuana Two-Step (Blake Sharp/Michael Floyd) to give the league’s reigning Champions a quick 87.75-point lead. In the second, Austin looked to Rafael dos Santos (Quitman, Georgia) aboard Black Jack (D&H Cattle Co./Flinn) to put them back on top on the leaderboard.
While Santos did not post points, he was awarded a re-ride after his bovine athlete counterpart fouled himself leaving the chutes. Nashville’s momentum continued to roll in the bottom of the second. The Stampede extended their lead to 170 points as Mason Moody (Letcher, South Dakota) topped Too Tall (Flinn Cattle Co.) for 82.25 points, his second qualified ride in the league. Austin continued to search for their first score of the game in the bottom of the third.
Up third for Austin was Cort McFadden (Novice, Texas) on Wild Bill (M Rafter E/Owens). McFadden was unable to answer the call for his team, brought down in a hard-fought 6.53 seconds. Nashville’s hopes of the team’s first perfect game continued in the bottom of the third. Kaiden Loud (Kaufman, Texas) delivered a commanding 87.5-point score on Ivy League (Jane Clark/Gene Owen) to grow Nashville’s lead to 257.5 points.
Trailing by three ride scores with only three outs remaining, Austin faced a must-ride situation in the top of the fourth. Lucas Divino (Nova Crixas, Brazil) burst from the chutes atop House Fire (Flinn Cattle Co.), but the charismatic Brazilian did not have enough to emerge the dominant athlete, hitting the ground in 3.65 seconds. The buckoff not only cemented the win for Nashville, the team’s second upset win against the Gamblers during the 2023 season, but also denied Austin from clinching the regular-season No. 1-rank Friday evening.
Before Nashville attempted their fourth bull, the Gamblers faced their re-ride, matching Dalton Kasel (Muleshoe, Texas) with Tulsa Time (Kelly & Cami Heath/McCoy Rodeo). Kasel couldn’t right Austin’s momentum, with the team remaining scoreless as he was tossed in a swift 1.65 seconds. In the bottom of the fourth, it was Ednelio Almeida (Cacoal, Brazil) who sustained Nashville’s first buckoff, denying them the first perfect game of the season when he was sent airborne by Hunting Trip (Dozier Cattle Co./ Martinez Bucking Bulls) in 3.45 seconds.
Austin may have already suffered defeat, but closer Jose Vitor Leme (Ribas do Rio Pardo, Brazil) was searching for crucial points in the Teams MVP race, hoping to earn the title in back-to-back seasons. In near picture-perfect form, Leme matched the bull jump-for-jump en route to the 8, awarded a game-high 88 points. The score also extended his lead in the MVP race to 171.5 points over No. 2 Cassio Dias (São F. de Sales, Brazil). However, the celebration was short-lived, as immediately after making the 8, Leme was jerked forward and knocked unconscious, carried out of the arena on a backboard.
With everyone sending well wishes to Leme, Nashville had one out remaining, and a potentially historic one at that. The final out of the game featured the Stampede’s Alves atop True Religion (M Rafter E/Owens), with Alves taking to the chutes one ride score away from his historic 500th career ride in premier PBR competition.
Upon close review, Alves was deemed to have made the 8 by milliseconds, awarded 84.75 points for his 500th career qualified ride. Alves is just the fourth rider in history to enter the 500 Club, joiningGuilherme Marchi (Tres Lagoas, Brazil), J.B. Mauney (Statesville, North Carolina) and Mike Lee (Decatur, Texas). At game’s end, Nashville won by 254.25 points, 342.25-88. With the win, they begin PBR Rattler Days, presented by Ariat, 1-0 and 10-16 this season.
Via the loss and a Kansas City win earlier in the evening, the Austin Gamblers continue to battle for the regular-season No. 1. They slipped to 0-1 inside Dickies Arena and 18-8 in 2023. As the competition continues Saturday, Oct. 7, Nashville will look to continue their momentum against the Carolina Cowboys, while Austin will try to rebound when they face their in-state rival and event host Texas Rattlers.

The game between the league No. 3 Rattlers and No. 4 Freedom began with a pair of buckoffs, with Alex Cerquiera (Iguatemi, Brazil) unsuccessful for Oklahoma and Joao Ricardo Vieira (Itatinga, Brazil) unable to convert for the home team. Texas and Oklahoma then turned their focus to the game’s second frame, both still searching for their first score.
The Freedom remained shutout as Thiago Salgado (Navirai, Brazil) was bucked off by Pearl Snap (Blue Ridge/Risen Cattle Co.) in 4.29 seconds. In the bottom of the second, the host Texas Rattlers became the first team to convert, leading the hometown crowd inside Dickies Arena to erupt in raucous cheer as Brady Fielder (Clermont, Queensland, Australia) topped Time Bomb (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Mark Baker) for 87 points. Oklahoma then turned to veteran competitor Trevor Reiste (Linden, Iowa) to give the team its first points of the game. Reiste, however, couldn’t answer the call for his team, brought down in 5.19 seconds by Casper (Crescent City Bucking Bulls/Lari Crane/Gene Owen).
In the bottom of the third, Texas may not have been able to extend their lead to two ride-scores, but Daniel Keeping (Montague, Texas) was awarded a re-ride after Washita Red (Eldred Cattle) hipped himself leaving the chutes. Oklahoma then turned to team newcomer Grayson Cole (New Ringgold, Pennsylvania) to give the team its first score of the game in the top of the fourth. Cole nodded with confidence atop Hunter (Dozier Cattle Co./Martinez Bucking Bulls) but was sent to the ground in a swift 1.69 seconds.
The Oklahoma buckoff gave the Rattlers a chance to clinch the win early in the bottom of the fourth. In the possible game-winning out was 18-year-old young gun Trace Redd (Malad, Idaho) paired with Mike’s Motive (Blake Sharp/High Voltage/Wetzel/Knott). In what proved to be a perfect pairing, Redd matched the powerful animal athlete jump-for-jump en route to the whistle, awarded a game-best 89.5 points as the hometown crowd went wild. The score also grew Texas’s lead to 176.5 points, cementing their win against Oklahoma as the Freedom had just one out remaining. Keen to prevent a shutout, the Freedom tasked closer Caden Bunch (Tahlequah, Oklahoma) with Sonny B (Flying S/Less Than 8 Cattle Co.).
After difficulties in the chutes, Bunch called for the gate to open, but was quickly sent to the ground, hitting the dirt in 1.28 seconds. While Oklahoma coachesCord McCoy and Kody Lostroh used their lone challenge, believing the bull fouled himself leaving the chutes, PBR’s officials did not agree, with the buckoff remaining and Oklahoma ending the game scoreless. The five-on-five showdown ended with back-to-back Texas outs. First up was closer Cody Jesus (Window Rock, Arizona) riding Spooky (Blake Sharp) for 86.25 points to increase his team’s margin of victory to 262.75 points. The game then ended with Braidy Randolph (Stephenville, Texas) attempting Texas’s re-ride draw Buffalo Chip (Blake Sharp / Robbie Ray/Doug Wilson), but he came down in 5.86 seconds.
At the game’s end, Texas won by three ride scores, 262.75-0. With the win, they began their Rattler Days, presented by Ariat, homestand 1-0 and more importantly improved their season record to 14-12. About the PBR Camping World Team Series:
The PBR Camping World Team Series is an elite league featuring the world’s top bull riders competing on teams in five-on-five bull riding games during an 11-event season beginning in July and culminating in a Team Championship at T- Mobile Arena in Las Vegas October 20-22. During the 2023 season, the league’s second, each of the eight teams – Austin Gamblers of Austin, TX; Arizona Ridge Riders of Glendale, AZ; Carolina Cowboys of Greensboro, NC; Kanas City Outlaws of Kansas City, MO; Nashville Stampede of Nashville, TN; Oklahoma Freedom of Oklahoma City, OK; Missouri Thunder of Ridgedale, MO; and Texas Rattlers of Fort Worth, TX – will host a three-day homestand. There are also neutral-site games in Cheyenne, WY and Anaheim, CA. The Nashville Stampede are the current 2022 defending champions.
The league format, which launched in July 2022, builds on the existing structure of professional bull riding with the same basic rules for judging and scoring qualified 8-second bull rides. In events staged in a tournament-style format, all teams compete in head-to-head matchups against a different opponent each day. Each game features five riders per team squaring off against another team. Full team rosters are comprised of seven riders on the Protected Roster and five Reserve riders. The team with the highest aggregate score of qualified rides among its riders is declared the winner of each game. The event winner is the team with the most game wins across an events. All PBR Team Series events are carried on either the CBS Television Network, streaming live on Paramount+, CBS Sports Network, or RidePass on Pluto TV.
