Thunder Bay Police apprehend fleeing suspect who is now facing multiple charges

THUNDER BAY, ON – A prohibited driver, suspected of impaired driving, has been charged with multiple offences after attempting to evade police officers during a Dawson Road traffic enforcement operation on Friday afternoon.

Traffic Enforcement Blitz Encounter

The incident unfolded just before noon on Friday, Aug. 25, when police officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop of a motorist during a traffic enforcement blitz along Dawson Road. The driver of a grey Porsche SUV, however, ignored the officers’ attempts to pull over and instead fled into the nearby Country Fair Mall parking lot on foot.

Additional Thunder Bay Police Service members from the Primary Response Branch were promptly dispatched to the scene to assist in locating the male suspect.

Investigation Unfolds

As the investigation progressed, law enforcement identified a potential male suspect linked to the incident. Evidence gathered suggested that the individual not only operated the vehicle while prohibited but also may have been impaired at the time.

Later that same day, shortly after 6 p.m., the male suspect voluntarily turned himself in at the TBPS headquarters, located at 1200 Balmoral Street.

Impaired by Drugs

Following his surrender, a Drug Recognition Expert assessed the suspect, ultimately concluding that he was indeed impaired by drugs.

Criminal Charges

David Stanley Reginald MUIR, a 39-year-old resident of Thunder Bay, now faces several charges, including:

  • Operation of a Motor Vehicle While Prohibited
  • Operation of a Motor Vehicle While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs
  • Obstruct Peace Officer
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order (x3)

Bail Court Appearance

MUIR appeared in bail court on Saturday, Aug. 26, where he was released with specific conditions and a future appearance date.
