Drug Bust Results in Asset Seizure

Harley Davidson © motorcycle seized by TBPSTHUNDER BAY – Crimebeat – On April 5, 2012 Thunder Bay Drug Enforcement Officers assisted by the provincial Asset Forfeiture Unit executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant on a residence in the 400 block of Wentworth Crescent Thunder Bay. Echo May Buset a 32 year old female resident was arrested and taken into custody. A 48 year old male was also present and taken into custody.

A result of the search of the residence and persons resulted in the seizure of approximately $1,500.00 in Canadian currency as well as approximately 25 grams of crack cocaine. Street value of the drugs is approximately $2,800.00.

Assets seized as a result of this investigation included a 2012 Harley Davidson © V-Rod motorcycle, and a number of high end musical instruments, and a Rolex watch. Total value of items seized to date is in excess of $40,000.00.

Police advise that the investigation is ongoing.

Buset and the male have been charged with:

• Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking sec 5(2) CDSA
• Possession of Proceeds of Crime not exceeding $5,000.00 sec 354 (1)(a) CC
• Possession of Proceeds of Crime exceeding $5,000.00 sec 354(1)(a) CC

Buset’s residence was the location of two (2) previous CDSA search warrants executed by police in August and November 2011 and similar charges against her are still before the courts. Buset was remanded into custody and appeared in court on April 10, 2012.

The 48 year old male was released on a Promise to Appear and an Undertaking with conditions and will appear in Thunder Bay court on May 15, 2012.

The Combined Forces Organized Crime Unit consists of members from The Thunder Bay Police Service, The O.P.P.- Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau, The R.C.M.P., The Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service and The Anishinabek Police Service.
