SAULT STE MARIE – Wildfire Update – As of this report, the Northeast Region is experiencing 33 active wildland fires. Among these fires, 2 are not under control, 1 is being held, 4 are under control, and 26 are being observed.

New Fire Incidents:

  1. Sault 10: This fire spans 0.2 hectares and is situated near Upper Algocen Lake. It is currently not under control.
  2. Cochrane 47: Covering 0.1 hectares, this fire is located approximately 16 kilometers north of Cochrane. It is not under control.

Safety Reminder: Help fight forest fires by staying clear of waterbombers. When waterbombers approach a body of water, ensure that you move close to the shore, allowing them to scoop safely. To avoid any potential hazards, a waterbomber will not scoop from a lake or river if encroaching watercraft are present.

Also, remember that flying drones around forest fires is both dangerous and illegal. Such activities can jeopardize the lives of pilots, firefighters, and other emergency personnel. Please be safe and stay clear of forest fires.
