Sault Ste. Marie – Wildfire Update – In the Northeast Region, there are currently 28 active wildland fires. Out of these, 1 fire is not under control, 1 is being held, 6 are under control, and 20 are being observed.
New Fire Confirmed
Today, a new fire was confirmed in the region:
- Sudbury 24
- Location: South point of Panache Lake, 2 km east of Bassoon Lake
- Size: 0.1 hectare
- Status: Not under control
Fire Hazard Conditions
The fire hazard ranges from low to moderate in areas south of Wawa, Chapleau, and Timmins. North of these areas, the fire hazard varies from low to high. For detailed fire hazard conditions in your area, refer to our interactive map.

- Location: Northeast of Lake Abitibi
- Size: 37,742 hectares
- Status: Being held
- Ontario FireRanger Crew and a team of 20 forest firefighters from Mexico are dedicated to this fire.
Implementation Orders
Update on Restrictions:
- The Translimit Road between Cochrane and Quebec will be reopened to traffic due to decreased fire behavior and effective fire suppression activities on Cochrane 7. However, closures of the Crossover and Eades Roads, along with township restrictions covering the Cochrane 7 fire area, remain in place.
- The MNRF Hearst-Cochrane-Kapuskasing District has implemented an Implementation Order to ensure public safety and effective fire suppression. Refer to the attached implementation order map for specific restrictions.
Safety Measures: Stay Clear of Waterbombers and Drones
- Waterbombers: When waterbombers approach a body of water, move close to the shore to allow them to perform their scoop safely. Remember that watercraft encroaching on the scoop zone pose a safety hazard.
- Drones: Flying drones around forest fires is dangerous and illegal. To ensure the safety of pilots, firefighters, and emergency personnel, refrain from flying drones near forest fires.
