UPDATE: Police Respond to Reports of Shots Fired on Thunder Bay’s Southside

Thunder Bay – NEWS – Thunder Bay Police have responded to reports of a shooting on Tuesday afternoon in the 200-block area of Amelia Street West.

According to the Thunder Bay Police Service (TBPS), officers from the Primary Response Branch were dispatched to the scene after receiving reports of an altercation involving a firearm and multiple parties.

Upon arriving at the scene, police learned that multiple shots had been fired. As a result, members of the TBPS’s Intelligence Unit, Emergency Task Unit, Break and Enter and Robbery (BEAR) Unit, Community Oriented Response and Engagement (CORE) Unit, were called in to provide assistance. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) also provided additional support.

Police believe that this was a targeted incident and members of the Major Crimes Unit have been called in to continue with the investigation. One male suspect has been taken into custody and is scheduled to appear in bail court on Wednesday, May 3.

During the incident, area schools, including Westgate High School and Dennis Franklin Cromarty High School along with Westmount and Kingsway Park public schools, and St. Martin School were placed in a hold and secure mode. That was lifted earlier in the afternoon.

The TBPS is urging anyone who has information that could assist investigators to come forward.
