Impaired Driving numbers are up in Thunder Bay. What should be done?

Kenora – News – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Kenora Detachment reported on April 12, 2023, that an individual was arrested and charged with impaired operation following a traffic complaint. According to the OPP, at approximately 5:30 p.m., officers responded to a traffic complaint involving a heavy equipment machine being driven erratically in the City of Kenora. The officers were able to locate the machine and conducted a traffic stop.

Subsequent investigation revealed that the driver of the heavy equipment machinery was under the influence of alcohol. As a result, the driver was arrested and taken to the Kenora OPP Detachment for further testing.

John MCDONALD, a 52-year-old Kenora resident, has been charged under the Criminal Code with Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs, as well as Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus). The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kenora on June 8, 2023, to answer to the charges.

The OPP continues to emphasize their commitment to removing alcohol/drug-impaired drivers from the roads through enforcement and public education. If anyone suspects that an individual is driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, they should call 9-1-1 immediately to report it.
