Keeping abreast of changes in technology

iconsTHUNDER BAY – Tech Talk – Keeping abreast of changes in technology is an important part of making sure that a website remains up and running at peak efficiency. Over the past week, NetNewsledger’s Chief Technology Officer has been quietly logging some long hours, the goal being to get NetNewsledger.com into complete HTML5 compliance.

That goal has been achieved. It means the site is now loading faster, for someone on a slow dial-up the site now loads five to seven seconds faster.

As well, readers likely have noticed some of the new additions to the site, the first of several more still to come. The new toolbar at the top of the page is just one of the new innovations. Several readers have commented on the “Who’s Online” feature which shows how many other readers are online and where they come from. It is interesting to see how instead of being ‘In the middle of no where’ that Northwestern Ontario and Thunder Bay are actually ‘In the middle of everywhere’. Interest in our community, and region is global.

NetNewsledger is also participating in a new Youtube program which will greatly enhance our video programing abilities. As well, we are generating a little “surprise” for our readers shortly which will allow you to enhance your news and entertainment enjoyment through the business day.

Our goal is to be ‘The’ Digital Portal for Northern Ontario, and the site that best shares the true spirit of innovation and co-operation in our region. It is something that we believe you, our readers, and viewers deserve. It is a part of the future in what we proudly call The Emerging Thunder Bay Region.
