KENORA – NEWS – The Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Sioux Narrows-Nestor Falls Fire and Rescue were dispatched to Caliper Lake Provincial Park after a report of a significant weather event.
On Monday July 18, 2022, at 12:03 am the OPP were dispatched to a property damage call at Caliper Lake Provincial Park.
Police were advised there were multiple trees down on campers, vehicles and blocking the road.
The Park has been evacuated while the damage is assessed, and no injuries are reported at this time.
Police recommend that travel in the Nestor Falls area be limited due to multiple trees and wires down.
Kenora MPP Minister Greg Rickford says, “Since hearing reports of tornado activity near Sioux Narrows-Nestor Falls, I have been in constant communication with local leaders and government officials to initiate supports. We are employing a whole of government approach to ensure community members have the resources they need.
We are thankful that no injuries have been reported at this time and appreciate the tireless efforts of Hydro One and emergency responders. I want to thank neighbouring communities who have volunteered to support those affected. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
We want those in the affected areas, and the families that have been impacted, to know that we have their backs during this difficult time.”
