The largest bike event in Northwestern Ontario is returning for 2022. The Shuniah Forty Miner Presented by Tbaytel, is a mountain bike marathon cross country race with the 48 kilometer race as the feature. Last year we saw over 500 people in attendance and this year, with COVID restrictions lifted, the Blacksheep Mountain Bike Club is expecting quite a large turn out. The event takes place September 9th and 10th at the beautiful Kinsman Park with the trails in Trowbridge Forest in Thunder Bay, ON

This two day event is not one to be missed. The event kicks off with packet pick up, pre race meeting and guest speaker Jenn Jackson, current Canadian Cross Country National Champion, on Friday night. The race begins Saturday at 11am with the 48 Kilometer race followed closely by the 24 kilometer race, the 12 kilometer race and, everyone’s favorite, The Mini Miner Race for the kids. After the race is finished there will be live music, food trucks and a beer garden.

Friday night’s guest speaker, Jenn Jackson, returns this year as the newly crowned Canadian Cross Country Mountain Biking National Champion. With a break out 2021 season Jackson is now on the all Canadian Canyon MTB Racing Team. Jackson has strong ties to the Thunder Bay community from when she spent time skiing at the Thunder Bay National Team Development Centre. Jackson’s speech will be broadcasted on the big screen for all attendants to see as she tells us about what it’s like to be an elite mountain bike rider.

“This year we really want to focus on bringing in out of town visitors for the event. With our amazing trails nestled on the shores of Lake Superior this will become a destination event. It’s our pleasure to play host with this amazing event and location. We also have the support of the community as evident from our large pool of local event sponsors. Last year was amazing and we’re very excited to see how much we can grow this event.” – Dave Valente Blacksheep Mountain Bike Club Events Coordinator

The event, organized by Blacksheep Mountain Bike Club, is quickly becoming a must attend event. Registration for the event is now open. To register and for more information please visit www.shuniahfortyminer.com
