THUNDER BAY – WEATHER – Grab your umbrella! The forecast across the majority of Western Ontario and parts of Northern Ontario is for rain.
There are special weather advisories in effect across the region this morning.
If you are up early at the Valhalla Inn in Thunder Bay, and see military vehicles, guarded by U.S. military don’t worry Canada has not been invaded, but rather reports are some large military trucks and supplies are here apparently headed to the Ukraine.
Thunder Bay
For your Thunder Bay Monday the forecast is for clouds with a 60 per cent potential for rain showers along with the risk of a thunderstorm today. Winds will becoming 20 km/h from the east by later this afternoon after strong more northerly winds last night.
It is +9 this morning headed to a high of +21.
The UV Index will be 5 or Moderate.
Fort Frances
Fort Frances is under a pair of weather advisories. Since midnight a special weather statement calling for significant rainfall this week is in effect.
This morning at 05:44 am Environment Canada issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for the Fort Frances area.
Severe thunderstorm watch in effect for:
- Fort Frances – Emo – Rainy River
- Seine River Village – Mine Centre
Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.
Severe thunderstorms possible early this morning. An area of thunderstorms is approaching from Minnesota early this morning.
The main threats will be nickel sized hail, and wind gusts to 90 km/h. Torrential downpours are also possible.
The threat of severe thunderstorms will end later this morning, however there is the potential for the redevelopment of severe thunderstorms again later this afternoon or evening.
It is +14 in Fort Frances this morning headed to a high of +23. The prediction for precipitation is for 15 to 25 mm of rain however that could jump to up to 40 mm of rain during thunderstorms.
Winds will be from the southwest at 20 km/h before becoming light later this morning.
The Humidex will make it feel more like +30 today.
The UV Index will be 5 or Moderate.
Tonight clouds will continue with a 40 per cent chance of more rain. The weather forecast is calling for heavy rain with thunderstorms beginning this evening and continuing through midnight. Another 20 to 30 mm of rain is possible.
Winds will be from the southeast at 20 gusting to 40 km/h before drawing down to light this evening. The overnight low will be +14.
Dryden and Vermilion Bay
For Monday in Dryden the morning starts with a Special Weather Statement.
Special weather statement in effect for:

The potential for significant rainfall amounts early this week. After showers and thunderstorms affected many regions throughout the day on Sunday, additional rounds of precipitation are expected overnight or early Monday morning.
Additional rainfall amounts of 10 to 25 mm are possible by Monday morning with locally higher amounts of 25 to 40 mm possible in thunderstorms.
Another round of precipitation is expected to move in from Minnesota Monday evening and will likely persist into Tuesday. Rainfall amounts in this second round of precipitation still remain uncertain but an additional 20 to 40 mm seems possible at this stage.
The forecast for Monday calls for a morning of rain showers. There will be a 40 per cent possibility of more rain this afternoon, along with the risk of a thunderstorm. Local rainfall totals of 10 to 20 mm are expected.
Monday’s high will be 20 with the Humidex making it feel more like 25.
The UV Index is 3 or Moderate.
Tonight will see a 40 per cent chance of more rain. Environment Canada predicts that showers at times heavy along with the potential of thunderstorms will bring another 15 to 25 mm of rain.
Winds will become southeast at 30 gusting to 50 km/h after midnight. The overnight low will be 15.
Sioux Lookout
Environment Canada has a Special Weather Statement in effect for Sioux Lookout, not that the community needs more rain.

- Sioux Lookout – Eastern Lac Seul
EC states that the “Potential for significant rainfall amounts early this week. After showers and thunderstorms affected many regions throughout the day on Sunday, additional rounds of precipitation are expected overnight or early Monday morning”.
Additional rainfall amounts of 10 to 25 mm are possible by Monday morning with locally higher amounts of 25 to 40 mm possible in thunderstorms.
Another round of precipitation is expected to move in from Minnesota Monday evening and will likely persist into Tuesday. Rainfall amounts in this second round of precipitation still remain uncertain but an additional 20 to 40 mm seems possible at this stage.
There still remains uncertainty in precipitation timing and amounts.
It is +14 to start your Sioux Lookout Monday headed to a high of +21. The Humidex will make that feel a muggy 26.
The UV Index will be 5 or moderate.
This evening will remain mainly cloudy There will be a 40 per cent potential for more rain, falling at time heavy with the risk of a thunder storm. Another 10 to 20 mm is predicted.
Winds will become 30 gusting to 50 km/h from the southeast after midnight. The overnight low will be +15.
Pikangikum
A Special Weather Statement is in effect.

- Pikangikum – Poplar Hill – MacDowell
There is the potential for significant rainfall amounts through Tuesday.
Periods of rain or drizzle are expected to persist through today before showers and thunderstorms develop this evening and continue into Tuesday night.
Rainfall amounts in this next round of precipitation still remain uncertain due to the uncertainty in the timing and location of the thunderstorms. However, an additional 20 to 40 mm is possible before Wednesday morning.
It is +14 in Pikangikum this morning headed to a high of +21. Winds will be from the east at 20 km//h this morning.
The Humidex will make the temperature feel a more muggy +26.
