THUNDER BAY – POLITICS – On Monday May 9, 2022 local business owner, Gary Mack, filed nomination papers to officially announce his candidacy for mayor in the upcoming municipal election scheduled for October 24, 2022.

Mack is owner of Bay Village Coffee, a local business well known for making a difference in the community and has received numerous awards including Small Business Excellence (Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce), Entrepreneur of the Year (Chronicle Journal), and the Respect award (City of Thunder Bay). He is currently nominated for Business Person of the Year (Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce).
Prior to becoming an entrepreneur, Mack had a successful career as a social worker including being Executive Director of Shelter House.
He specialized in the areas of mental health, substance use and homelessness. Mack believes that his years spent on the frontlines with our city’s most challenging issues coupled with his resourcefulness and entrepreneurial spirit make him the leader Thunder Bay needs at this critical time.
“After much thought and consideration I have decided to offer myself as a candidate for mayor. This is a pivotal moment for our beautiful city and we need strong leadership and a clear vision for the Thunder Bay we want to create. I know that I can be the leader our city needs to build a Thunder Bay that we can all  be proud of.”
Mack plans to spend the next several weeks meeting with community members and leaders to hear concerns and ideas. He will then release a comprehensive platform for voters that will focus on his 4 key priorities:
Fostering a strong local economy focused toward greater self-sufficiency
Ensuring Thunder Bay Police Services aligns with community values
Ending homelessness
Caring for our infrastructure
