OTTAWA – Greetings, fellow Canadians across our country and around the world on this, the 143rdanniversary of Confederation!
This has been a great year for Canada, truly a time to shine!
At Vancouver’s Olympics and Paralympics, our fantastic athletes set a record for the most gold medals any nation ever won at a Winter Games!
It’s also been a time of leadership and hope, as our country has hosted the Summits of the G8 and G20 and as our economy begins to emerge from the global recession in the strongest position of any advanced country in the world.
And, of course, in Haiti, Afghanistan and elsewhere, we have continued to do our duty to help build a better world through strong diplomacy, compassionate development assistance and the valiant work of the men and women of the Canadian Forces.
In short, this is an important occasion to remind ourselves how lucky we are to be citizens of the best country in the world!
On behalf of my family, Laureen, Ben, and Rachel, and on behalf of the Government of Canada, I wish all of you a Happy Canada Day!
Prime Minister Stephen Harper
