THUNDER BAY – Officials with the City of Thunder Bay met with the private development consortium on June 28 and 29 to discuss the hotel and condominium development at Prince Arthur’s Landing.

The City and the Developers worked on the final details for the building design. A report detailing these plans and the selected hotel partner will be presented to City Council in late summer. The Developers expect to begin condominium pre-sales early this fall, with construction to begin in early 2011.

“The last two days have been very productive,” said Tim Commisso, City Manager. “We appreciate the hard work and commitment of the Developers and look forward to welcoming them back later this summer to present their plans to the community.”

Three serious, very interested hoteliers also met with City officials this week and they had a chance to tour Thunder Bay as part of their due diligence process.

“I am very pleased with how the meetings have gone,” said Gisele MacDonald, President, Re Solve Group Inc.

“We are moving forward and are extremely excited for the completion of the designs based on the City of Thunder Bay’s guidelines.”

MacDonald added that The Re Solve Group is anxiously waiting to release their plans as soon as the final design is approved by City Council.

The City’s work on the public elements of Prince Arthur’s Landing will be largely complete by April 2011. The public projects include expanded trails, an expansion and renovation to the Baggage Building, a new Water Garden Pavilion (washrooms, maintenance, change rooms and concessions), ice rink/splash pad, market square, events plaza, beacons on the piers, public art, parking, spirit garden and other public facilities.

The private development will consist of a hotel, two condominiums, a commercial building for shops and restaurants, and redevelopment of the CN Station.

Work including site preparation and infrastructure improvements has already laid the foundation for the private and public sector developments.
