THUNDER BAY – The Lakehead University men’s basketball team keeps on rolling on Saturday, winning 95-54 over the Ryerson Rams. What was a competitive game through one quarter (tied 15-15) stretched to a comfortable 14 point lead at halftime for the ‘Wolves. After the third quarter in which LU outscored the Rams 25-6, it simply became a question of how much they would win by.
All Thunderwolves would make it onto the score sheet, with Joe Jones topping all scorers at 19 points (5-6 from three) as he would ignite from long distance to bury any hopes the Rams had of challenging. All Lakehead players would also record a rebound, with Yoosrie Salhia grabbing 10 to go with 13 points (6-of-8 shooting).
Ryerson’s leading scorer was Jordan Gauthier with 15 and Afeworki Gebrekerestos had 10.
Lakehead out-rebounded Ryerson 38-23 and out-shot them 51% to 34% from the field.
Coach Scott Morrison said, “We were really pleased with the effort and focus on the guys tonight. We weren’t perfect, especially giving up early O boards, but I thought it was our best execution so far this season. Credit to Yoosrie Salhia for controlling the paint tonight and to Greg Carter who got the better of a tough matchup in Jahmal Jones.”
