THUNDER BAY – Spend some time watching Polar Bears. The Polar Bear or White Bear (Ursus maritimus) is a massive land animal. The adult male can weigh as much as 1500 pounds, or 680 kilometres. Right now in Churchill Manitoba, and other places along James Bay, the bears are gathering awaiting the formation of sea ice so they can migrate north in search of seals.

January 31 2011 – Explore shares, “We are happy to announce that enough ice has formed on the Hudson Bay to allow our polar bear friends to begin the hunting season. Please enjoy some of the precious moments we captured throughout the season here and in the highlights below”.

This year you can watch online, as the bears wait. The “Polar Bear Buggy” films the bears as they are in Churchill, during daylight hours. Right now (November 5 2010) that is from about 7AM until about 4:30PM Central time.
