THUNDER BAY – Back in February, in Thunder Bay, Shy-Anne Hovorka hosted “For the love of life” which was a showcase of award winning musicians. The evening held at the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium brought together a wide range of musicians, singers, and speakers.
One of those speakers was from the Turtle Lodge. He spoke of the importance for young people to embrace their culture and seek out their roots. That speaker was Dave Courchene.
The words spoken by Elder Dave Courchene are always powerful, and always have deep meaning.
“Today we are challenged”, stated Elder Dave Courchene, speaking before the Assembly of First Nations. “We must step forward as a people, to share the knowledge of the elders”, continued Couchene.
Courchene asked what is it going to take before Canada starts to learn from and respect the knowledge of our Indigenous People.
From June 1-5, 2012, Anishnabe Elder Dave Courchene and the Grandmothers are making a call to all young women, men and to those who yearn a connection to Spirit – who want to find meaning and vision that will define the purpose of their life.
They are able to take 50 girls/women and 50 boys/men on this year’s experience.
