Winter Weather Update Splash

Thunder Bay – WEATHER – Welcome to the first weekend of 2021. The weather across Western Ontario is inviting for getting out for a long winter’s walk, a bike ride if you are into the “new” cross country skiing, or just getting some fresh air.

For Northern Ontario, there is a snowfall warning in effect for northern Manitoba. The snow is likely to be impacting Northern Ontario this weekend as the system makes its way east.

Environment Canada says that snow will spread across northern Manitoba on Saturday, beginning midday near the Saskatchewan border and reaching the Ontario border by evening. The snow will taper off from west to east Saturday night.

Thunder Bay Weather Outlook

It is -6 in Thunder Bay at 07:00 am EST. The high today will be -3°C. Skies are cloudy with winds forecast for up to 15 km/h. The wind chill is -11°C this morning and -5°C this afternoon.

Tonight, skies will remain mainly cloudy with a low of -11°C. Winds will be up to 15 km/h. The wind chill -8°C this evening and -14°C overnight.

The temperature today is seasonal, but not near the highest temperatures recorded on this day. It was +3.3°C back in 1964 which is the highest temperature recorded. Thankfully we are a long ways from the lowest temperature recorded at -38.5°C in 1979.

Washaho Cree Nation / Fort Severn Weather Outlook

It is -11°C this morning at 06:00 am CST in Washaho, the temperature will remain steady for the day. The forecast is calling for a few flurries ending near noon then cloudy with a 30 percent chance of flurries. Winds up to 15 km/h. The wind chill -20°C this morning and -15°C this afternoon.

Tonight, will see cloudy skies with that 30 percent chance of flurries continuing early this evening. However the storm system in Manitoba will move into the region tonight with snow at times heavy. Snowfall amounts of 10 cm are expected tonight. Winds will become northeast 20 km/h overnight. The overnight low will be -16°C with the temperature rising to -13°C by morning. The wind chill will make it feel more like -24°C. Looking forward to Sunday, there will be more snow at times heavy ending early in the morning then a mix of sun and cloud with a 40 percent chance of flurries. The winds will blow north 20 km/h becoming light early in the afternoon.

Kenora and Lake of the Woods Weather Outlook

It is -6°C in Kenora this morning at 06:00 am CST under cloudy skies. There is a 40 percent chance of flurries early this morning with risk of freezing drizzle and fog patches dissipating this morning.

Skies will clear later this afternoon. Winds will become south 20 km/h gusting to 40 late this morning. The high will be near zero with the wind chill near -10°C this morning.

Tonight, the Lake of the Woods region will have increasing cloudiness early this evening. There is a risk of freezing drizzle overnight. The weather service says fog patches will develop after midnight. Winds will be southwest 20 km/h gusting to 40 becoming light after midnight. The overnight low will be -5°C and the wind chill will make it feel more like -9°C.
