Thunder Bay – WEATHER – Weather warnings and alerts continue for the region. The warnings range from Extreme Cold Warnings for Washaho Cree Nation / Fort Severn in the north, to snowfall warnings and alerts across Western Ontario.

The cold spot in Ontario this morning is -28.2 °C or -18.8 °F at the Peawanuck Airport.

Local roads and highways will be slippery. If you do not need to travel, today is a good day to step back, relax, and binge watch Netflix, Apple TV, Crave, or read a good book.

Thunder Bay Police state, “Consider cancelling unnecessary travel. If you must travel, be sure to give yourself lots of extra time to arrive at your destination. Leave lots of space between your vehicle and other motorists and adjust your speeds to the weather and roadway conditions.”

Thunder Bay Weather

Today will be a day of temperature change in Thunder Bay. At 06:30 it is 0°C however by this afternoon it will fall to -11°C and the overnight low will be -18°C.

The forecast is for snow, at times heavy, except rain near Lake Superior this morning. There is a risk of freezing drizzle this morning.

There will be a possibility of Local blowing snow late this afternoon. Total snowfall amounts of 5 to 10 centimetres are forecast. Winds will become northwest 30 km/h gusting to 50 this morning. The temperature will drop to -11°C this afternoon. The wind chill will make it feel more like -21°C this afternoon.

Tonight, the weather service says the snow will continue falling at times heavy and local blowing snow. Another 5 to 10 centimetres is predicted. Winds will be northwest 40 km/h gusting to 60. The overnight low -18°C however with the wind chill it will feel colder, -21°C this evening and -31°C overnight. This means there is a risk of frostbite.

Washaho Cree Nation Forecast

There is an Extreme Cold Warning in Effect. At -6:30 it is -28 in Washaho. The forecast is calling for a mix of sun and clouds today with a 30 percent chance of flurries late this morning and this afternoon. Winds will be up to 15 km/h. High minus 24, but with the wind chill -43 this morning and -32 this afternoon. With these windchill levels, frostbite to unexposed skin can happen in minutes.

Tonight, expect mainly cloudy skies with a 30 percent chance of flurries this evening. Winds becoming north 30 km/h late this evening. The overnight low will be -25. The stronger winds however mean a wind chill near -37.

Greenstone Weather Outlook

In Geraldton this morning, a Winter Storm Warning is in effect. There will be snow, at times heavy, with amount of 10 to 20 centimetres expected. Winds will be northeast 20 km/h gusting to 40. The temperature will fall to -16 this afternoon. The wind chill value will be -20 this morning and -25 this afternoon.

Tonight, Environment Canada says snow will continue, at times heavy with expected amounts of another 10 to 15 centimetres likely. There will be local blowing snow from north winds blowing from 30 km/h but gusting to 50. Low -20, and a wind chill -25 this evening and -33 overnight. This means there is a risk of frostbite to unexposed skin.

Dryden and Vermilion Bay

There is a snowfall warning in effect for the Dryden / Vermilion Bay region. Environment Canada says, snow at times heavy but could be mixed with freezing drizzle early this morning. Snowfall amount of 5 to 10 cm are expected today. Winds will be north 30 km/h gusting to 50, this means local blowing snow conditions are likely. The temperature will be falling to -18 this afternoon. Wind chill values of -17 this morning and -29 this afternoon. This mean there is a risk of frostbite.

Tonight periods of snow will be ending before morning then partly cloudy skies are predicted. There will be local blowing snow early this evening. Additional snowfall amounts of 2 centimetres are likely. Winds will be north 30 km/h gusting to 50. The overnight low -26. Wind chill -28 this evening and -38 overnight. With these windchill levels, frostbite to unexposed skin can happen in minutes.
