Western and Northern Ontario?

For some in our region, the term Northwestern Ontario is our geographic designation. However when you look at a map of Canada, Thunder Bay, Fort Frances, Atikokan, Rainy River, Kenora, and Dryden are not north. Actually Thunder Bay is south of Winnipeg, Regina, Calgary, and Vancouver.

Thunder Bay is “North” of Toronto. For many in Southern Ontario, everything north of Orillia is “North” or perhaps doesn’t even register as part of Ontario. Place perhaps that blame on the old fashioned folding road maps? You have to flip the map over to find Western Ontario.

Northern Ontario should be all of the communities north of Sioux Lookout and Pickle Lake.
