THUNDER BAY – All locations of the Thunder Bay Public Library will be closed effective Wednesday, August 12, 2020. We have been informed that a member of our staff tested positive for Covid-19.
We received excellent advice and guidance from the Thunder Bay District Health Unit that the case was low risk and that we should have staff self-monitor for symptoms, self isolate if experiencing symptoms, and book a COVID-19 test if they are experiencing any symptoms.
However, out of an abundance of caution for the health of Library staff, and ultimately the public as well, the Management team has decided to close Libraries and discontinue returns and no contact hold pick up until all staff can be tested for COVID-19. Once all results have been reported, the Waverley and Mary J.L Black Libraries will re-open for no contact holds pick up and returns.
Library Management has adopted a safe and slow approach to reopening library services for the community. We have also put new protocols and policies into place to ensure physical distancing of staff and the public, good hand hygiene, the wearing of PPE such as masks and gloves, and quarantining all items returned for a minimum of 72 hours.
Updates will be posted on social media and on the Library’s Website.
