August 6, 2020 Time of Report – 17:30 Northwest Region
THUNDER BAY – There are two new forest fires in the region. Taking care with fire as the temperature ramps up is important.
- There were two new forest fires confirmed in the Northwest Region by the mid-afternoon of August 6.
- Nipigon 40 is being observed at 1.3 hectares and is located on an island on Lake Nipigon, approximately 120 kilometres west of Geraldton.
- Sioux Lookout 44 is not under control at 0.3 hectares and is located near Lynxpaw Lake, approximately 84 kilometres northeast of Sioux Lookout
- There are currently five active forest fires in the Northwest Region. One is not under control, one is under control, and three are being observed.
- The forest fire hazard is mainly high to extreme with pockets of low to moderate hazard in the far north of Red Lake and Sioux Lookout districts.

Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services would like to remind the public to use caution when performing any outdoor burning. In order to dispose of yard waste and woody debris, we encourage you to use methods such as composting or using your local landfill. If you must burn, follow Ontario’s outdoor burning regulations.
Fires are to be ignited no sooner than 2 hours before sunset and extinguished no later than 2 hours after sunrise.
Always have tools/water adequate to contain the fire at the site.
