Impaired Charges Follow Boat Chase on Lake of the Woods

KENORA – Boating and alcohol consumption doesn’t mix. The Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police has charged a person after a marine stop on Laurensons Lake in the City of Kenora.

Police attempted to stop a vessel in Safety Bay on Lake of the Woods. Officers later located the boat on Laurensons Lake.

Upon speaking to the driver it was determined that they had been consuming alcohol.

As a result of this investigation, 27-year-old Steven HALVERSON of Kenora has been charged with the following Criminal Code (CC) charges;

  • Operation While Impaired contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) CC
  • Dangerous Operation contrary to section 320.13(1) CC
  • Flight from Peace Officer contrary to section 320.17 CC

The accused is to appear in court on September 10, 2020, to answer to the charge.

None of the charges have been proven in court.
