THUNDER BAY – Did the United States open too fast? Many states are reporting increased Coronavirus numbers after starting to open their economies. This possible second wave is coming even as the national figures are showing progress against the virus.
In many states, Americans were taking to the streets in protest demanding that they must be allowed to get back to normal. The results could be an accelerated second wave of coronavirus.
Jeffrey Morris, the Director of Biostatistics at the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine says that there is evidence of the second wave of coronavirus building.
Morris points to Arizona, Texas and Florida. In Arizona, the state is witnessing 1,187 new cases of coronavirus in the past two weeks. This is the highest total of new cases in a week since the pandemic started.
On June 10, 2020, the State of Texas has reported 2,504 new coronavirus cases. This represents the highest single-day total since the pandemic emerged.
In Florida, where people demanded the restrictions be eased has now seen the largest number of new cases of coronavirus, 8,553.
In California, the number of people hospitalized with coronavirus has continued a nine-day climb, with increased positive cases of the virus. California’s hospitalizations are at the highest since May 13, 2020, and have risen in nine of the past 10 days.
New York has been one of the hardest-hit states, there the move to re-open has been based more on science than on public opinion, and the Governor has drawn criticism over those decisions.
