THUNDER BAY – Minister of Health and Thunder Bay-Superior North MP Patty Hajdu says that in fighting COVID-19 Canada is “through the first period” but there are still a long way to go.
The Minister tells NetNewsLedger that her ministry has been involved in the area of long-term care homes, and the report from the Canadian military brings in a shocking level of information.
While the long-term care homes are under provincial jurisdiction, the federal government will play their part.
As numbers of cases reported by the Northern Ontario health units are very low, Minister Hadju says “We still have to remain vigilant”.
“Good news, cautiously optimistic,” says the Minister. “If you want to say a hockey analogy, we are through the first period”.
“We won’t be fully safe until there is a vaccine”.
The Minister states that right now we have the capacity for 60,000 tests a day across Canada but by the fall the goal is for 200,000 tests.
