THUNDER BAY – What is that old story if dog bites man… well last night it was a drunk biting a police officer. An intoxicated man, offered a ride home by a Thunder Bay Police officer chose, by his actions charges after he assaulted the officer. Police say the man, whose identity they did not release bit the officer and then damaged the police cruiser.
Thunder Bay Police Service officers were dispatched to reports of a disturbance at a residential address in the 500 block of Lanark Crescent just after 11 pm on Thursday, April 30, 2020.
When police arrived they learned an intoxicated individual had assaulted another person. The parties were known to each other and the homeowner wanted police to remove the intoxicated individual from the residence.
Police located the accused and offered him transportation to his own home. The intoxicated individual refused and became combative with officers.
Police managed to complete the arrest, but the accused continued to be combative and caused damage to the police cruiser just prior to being transported to the Thunder Bay Police Service headquarters.
A 20-year-old Thunder Bay man has been charged with Mischief Under $5,000, and Assaulting a Peace Officer.
The man appeared in bail court Friday, May 1, 2020, and was released with conditions and a future appearance date. None of the charges have been proven in court.
