OPP Nab a Pair of Impaired Drivers over the Weekend

Impaired Driving numbers are up in Thunder Bay. What should be done?

THUNDER BAY – The Ontario Provincial Police report on a pair of incidents involving suspected impaired drivers.

First, on February 21, 2020, at approximately 8:27 pm, officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a possible impaired driver on Highway 17, east of Upsala.

Officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. Officers spoke with the driver and determined that the driver had been consuming alcohol. The driver was arrested and further tests were conducted.

Alonzo PITTMAN, 47 years of age, from Thunder Bay, was charged with:

– Operate a Motor Vehicle While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration Over 80 mgs of Alcohol contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code.

PITTMAN is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on April 17, 2020 to answer to the charge.

The OPP along with all Ontarians with common sense are asking that people keep a watchful eye to keep impaired driver off our roads.

Next, on February 23, 2020, at approximately 7:07 pm, officers from the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) contacted the OPP to report that they had an impaired driver that entered Canada from the United States in their custody.

OPP officers attended the CBSA, the driver was arrested and further tests were conducted.

John JOHNSTON, 28 years of age from Thunder Bay, was charged with:

– Operate a Motor Vehicle While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration Over 80 mgs of Alcohol contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code.

JOHNSTON is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on March 24, 2020 to answer to the charge.

None of the charges have been proven in court.

The OPP is committed to safety for all who utilize Ontario’s roadways. Members of the public are urged to report impaired driving by calling 911 in emergency situations. Complaints of impaired, aggressive or careless driving can also be made by calling 1-888-310-1122.
