THUNDER BAY – Volunteer Fire Firefighters will be back to school June 10, 11, 12, and 13 at the Thunder Bay and Region Protective and Emergency Services Training Centre, 750 Hammond Avenue, in Thunder Bay.
The four (4) day Fire Fighter Survival/Search and Rescue/Fire Suppression course of the Ontario Fire College, in conjunction with the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office, is being led by Chief Aime Spencer. Volunteer fire fighters from O’Connor, Gillis, East Gorham, Lappe, Kaministiquia, and other townships are being taught what it takes to become a hands-on firefighter. Students develop incident management techniques, skills, and then proceed into the practical portion of the program. Emphasis is on protective clothing, firefighter survival, search and rescue, and fire suppression. There are live fire situations using the fire tower, vehicles, roofs and flammables.
Thursday, June 10 will be in the classroom from 6 – 9 p.m.
Friday, June 11 will be in the class from 8 – 10:30 a.m., then practical outside until 8 p.m.
Saturday, June 12 will be outside practical 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Sunday, June 13 will be outside practical 8 a.m. – 12:00 noon.
