Individual Rescued from Thunder Bay Harbour Ice

Walking out on the harbour ice is dangerous, and prohibited

Man Was 500 Meters from Shore When Rescued

THUNDER BAY – For some reason for some people walking out on the harbour ice is something they just seem to do. It is dangerous, and also strictly prohibited.

Today at approximately 18:04 pm. Thunder Bay Fire Rescue received a call about an individual who had walked out onto the harbor ice. Fire Rescue responded to the scene and found a male that had walked out onto the ice in front of the Bite Restaurant at Marina Park. He was approximately 500 yards from shore.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue quickly launched the Rescue Air Boat to retrieve the individual with Thunder Bay Police Service officer. Upon the arrival of responders, the individual was quickly removed from the ice and returned to shore.

There were no injuries to Responders as well as to the individual. The person was taken to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Center by Superior North EMS paramedics as a precaution.
