WINNIPEG – NEWS – Winnipeg Police have been kept very busy over the New Year’s period. There have been a number of serious incidents, as well as robberies in addition to the usual crime police deal with.
Weapons Charges
North District Community Support unit was in the area of Selkirk Avenue and Andrews Street when they observed a wanted male. The male immediately fled on foot but was pursued and taken into custody while attempting to hide in a yard in the 500 block of Flora Avenue. A search of the male resulted in the seizure of several items, including the following:
– An improvised firing device (“zip gun”)
– Parts that can be used to construct an improvised firing device
– Three 12-gauge shotgun shells
– Three .22 calibre rounds of ammunition
A 17-year-old male of Winnipeg has been charged with:
– Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order (x6)
– Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
– Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
– Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition
The male was also processed on two outstanding warrants for charges of:
– Assault with a Weapon
– Fail to Comply Sentence (x4)
He was detained in custody.
Convenience Store Robbery
On January 1, 2020, at approximately 5:52 am, General Patrol units and a K9 unit responded to a report of a robbery at a convenience store in the 300 block of Henderson Highway. Three males had attended the store, with one threatening to shoot an employee with a gun. A quantity of merchandise was stolen, and the males fled.
The K9 unit was deployed and tracked to a residence in the 300 block of Chalmers Avenue, where three suspects were taken into custody. Members of the Major Crimes Unit continued with the investigation.
Skylar Alexander James Cook, an 18-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:
– Robbery
– Fail to Comply with Sentence
– Fail to Comply with Condition of Undertaking
A 16-year-old male of Winnipeg has been charged with:
– Robbery
– Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order (x4)
They were detained in custody.
An 18-year-old male of Winnipeg will be charged with:
– Robbery
He was released on an Undertaking.
Weapons, Robbery, Drug Offenses
On December 31, 2019, at approximately 4:51 pm, North District General Patrol officers responded to the area of Mountain Avenue and Salter Street for a report of a robbery that had just occurred to a 17-year-old female.
The teenager had attended a residence in the 300 block of Salter Street to sell a mobile phone after making arrangements through an online classifieds service. She was invited inside the suite, at which time a firearm was pointed at her and she was robbed of the phone before fleeing.
Upon arrival, officers located a loaded sawed-off .22 calibre rifle that had been hidden just outside of the suite and took two occupants into custody.
Members of the Major Crimes Unit continued with the investigation and executed a search warrant at the suite. Several items were seized from within, including .22 calibre ammunition, 1.36 grams of cocaine, and 3.94 grams of methamphetamine. The stolen phone was also recovered.
Chelsey Dawn Osborne, a 21-year-old female of Winnipeg, has been charged with:
– Armed Robbery using a Restricted Firearm or Prohibited Firearm
– Use of Firearm During Commission of an Indictable Offence
– Careless Use of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition (x2)
– Pointing a Firearm
– Possession of a Weapon
– Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
– Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
– Possession of Scheduled Substance – Methamphetamine
– Possession of Scheduled Substance – Cocaine
Kelly Marie Kroeker, a 27-year-old female of Winnipeg, has been charged with:
– Possession of a Weapon
– Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
– Store Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regulations
– Possession of Scheduled Substance – Methamphetamine
– Possession of Scheduled Substance – Cocaine
They were detained in custody.
