MINNEAPOLIS, MN — The Bantam AA Queens return home with Championship Gold from the All American Hockey Tournament held at the Super Rink in Minneapolis. The Queens went 3-0 in their round-robin games, outscoring opponents 11-2, including 5 goals from Joanna Martinsen. In the semifinals, they defeated Blaine 5-1 highlighted by 2-goal, 4-point game from Riah Compardo.
In the finals, the Queens had a rematch against the North Wright County Riverhawks. Queens’ goalie Abby Wills, who had shutout the Riverhawks in their previous game 1-0, kept that streak going in the final with a 3-0 victory but had a lighter workload as the Queens dominated the game outshooting their opponents 24-7.
Paige Broughton scored twice including the first goal and eventual game-winner, as well as a game-sealing empty-net goal. Head Coach Dave Olenik credits the dominant performance with everyone buying into a defence first philosophy and a total team effort.
