A Defensive battle that saw Lakehead Fall just short - Thunderwolves Nikki Ylygan on defence

THUNDER BAY – SPORTS – The Lakehead Thunderwolves Women’s Basketball team took on the Laurier University Golden Hawks at the Thunderdome on Saturday night.

The Wolves, coming off a win on Friday night were off to a steady start. The game remained very close through the first half with the score tied at 27 aside at the half.

The Wolves mounted a steady flow of offense through the third quarter at one point taking a ten-point lead.

However, through the 4th quarter, the Golden Hawks kept closing the gap and gaining on the Thunderwolves.

With 28.8 seconds left in the 4th quarter, and the score tied 55-55. The Thunderwolves were left standing as #12 Brianna Innazzo for Laurier was standing at the free-throw line for a pair of points.

Then with 14.3 seconds left, Innazzo was back at the free-throw line following another foul to score one more point.

At the buzzer, Nikki Yiagan fired an attempted three-pointer that just missed.

Overall a solid game for the women who came very close but fell short with a little slowdown in their offensive efforts in the final quarter.

Final Score: 58-55 with the Laurier Golden Hawks winning over the Lakehead Thunderwolves.
