Update: Winnipeg Police Charge Suspect in Assault on Three-Year-Old

WINNIPEG – On October 30, 2019, at approximately 2:35 am CDT emergency personnel responded to a residence in the 300 block of Pritchard Avenue for a report of a child that had been seriously assaulted.

Upon arrival, a 3-year-old male child was located suffering from significant upper-body injuries. The child was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

Update: Members of the Major Crimes Unit continued with the investigation and identified a male suspect known to the family.

At approximately 4:05 pm CDT, a North District General Patrol unit was traveling in the area of McPhillips Street and Leila Avenue when they observed the suspect and placed him under arrest.

Investigators believe the suspect had been in the company of the child’s mother at an address on Main Street when she was assaulted. The suspect then attended the Pritchard Avenue residence and the child was attacked before the suspect fled.

Responding officers located the child suffering from stab wound injuries and provided emergency first aid. The child remains hospitalized in grave condition at this time.

Daniel Jensen, a 33-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:

– Attempt to Commit Murder
– Assault Cause Bodily Harm
– Fail to Comply Condition Recognizance by Judge/Justice (x6)
– Fail to Comply with Probation Order

He was detained in custody.

None of the charges have been proven in court.
