THUNDER BAY – SPORTS – A very strong University of Calgary Dinosaurs women’s basketball team took on the Lakehead Thunderwolves women last night at the Thunderdome before a solid crowd of fans.

The Thunderwolves women’s basketball team learned a lot about themselves in the 80-51 loss to the University of Calgary Dinos Friday night, according to their head coach, Jon Kreiner.

“Calgary is definitely a great first team to play if you’re looking at figuring out what you need to work on,” Kreiner said.
“They did a great job of exposing our weaknesses and made us pay for our mistakes. That being said, we found ways to fight back all evening and when we were able to get set defensively, we did a nice job getting stops.”
Nikki Ylagan led the Wolves’ offensively with 33 minutes and 4 three-pointers. On the defensive side, Tiffany Reynolds led the way with 6 defensive rebounds.
“When we struggled to attack pressure Calgary scored layups and we didn’t do a great job of defending personnel appropriately but I feel we have the right attitude in learning from our mistakes and feel we’ll be ready to play tomorrow,” said Kreiner.
The Dinosaurs really took command in the fourth quarter racking up an impressive 26-6 scoring lead. The long trip to the lower altitude of Thunder Bay’s 600 feet above sea level compared to Calgary’s 3000-foot altitude likely assisted the Dino’s in their win.
The Thunderwolves will be back in action on Saturday, September 28 at 7 PM for a rematch against the Dinos.
