Ear Falls Man Nets Load of Charges in Rainy River RIDE Stop

RAINY RIVER, ON) – A RIDE check in Rainy River has netted an Ear Falls man a load of charges. OPP report that shortly after 1:00 am on September 22, 2019 members of the Rainy River District Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) check in the Town of Rainy River.

The attention of the officers at the RIDE check was drawn to a half tonne truck that attended the area.

An officer detected the odor of alcohol and demanded that the operator of the motor vehicle provide a sample of his breath into an approved screening device. The operator registered an “alert” indicating a blood alcohol concentration greater than 50 milligrams of alcohol in 100 milliliters of blood.

Further investigation revealed that the operator’s driver’s licence was currently suspended for a similar incident. As a result of the investigation conducted, Joshua FURHER (18) of Ear Falls was charged with the following offenses:

  •  One count of drive motor vehicle under suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act (HTA);
  • One count of novice driver – Blood alcohol concentration above zero contrary to the HTA;
  • One count of failing to have insurance card contrary to Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (CAIA); and
  • One count of drive motor vehicle with a speed measuring device contrary to the HTA.

As a result of driving with a suspended licence, the motor vehicle was impounded for a period of 7 days.

As a result of a second incident registering an “alert” on a roadside screening device, he was issued a second suspension for 7 days.

The OPP is committed to safety for all who utilize Ontario’s roadways. Members of the public are urged to report Impaired Driving by calling 911 in emergency situations. Complaints of impaired, aggressive or careless driving can also be made by calling 1-888-310-1122.
