Major Storm Knocks out Power on Friday

RED LAKE – Mayor Fred Mota has declared a state of emergency in Red Lake following severe damage to the community infrastructure caused by a storm in the community that hit Friday night.

Severe winds and rain associated with the storm have knocked down many trees and caused damage to hydro lines.

Mayor Mota states, “While we experience this extreme event, we are pleased to report no one was injured. This being said I urge everyone to check on their neighbours, and assist people where possible during the power outage. Please use caution when out on our streets. Municipal employees and community partners are currently evaluating the situation and have commenced the clean-up”.

  • Ear Falls – Perrault Falls – Western Lac Seul
  • Red Lake – Woodland Caribou Park

Showers and isolated thunderstorms will continue tonight with additional rainfall amounts of 15 to 25 mm likely by Sunday morning.

Poor driving conditions from low visibility in downpours are possible tonight.
