4th Annual Shuniah Forty Miner Set for September 21 2019

THUNDER BAY – SPORTS – The Blacksheep Mountain Biking Club will be hosting the 4th Annual Shuniah Forty Miner, an XC marathon mountain bike race, this Saturday, September 21st, 2019. 

The course consists of a 12km lap beginning in Kinsmen Park (Trowbridge Falls) and takes advantage of all the amazing natural terrain and features that the Trowbridge Forest has to offer. Riders register to take on either 1, 2 or 4 laps (12/24/48km), and there is also a 5km Mini-Miner loop for younger racers; last year’s event saw 120 competitors take to the start line.                

Riders must register before Thursday at 11:59 pm at blacksheepmtb.com/shuniah-forty-miner         

On-site racer sign-in begins at 9:00 am. Riders will have time to visit vendor tents and warm-up for the race before they are called to the start line at 10:40 am; there will be a greeting to the competitors from Mayor Bill Mauro, followed up by race guidelines and instructions provided to the competitors. Riders taking part in the 48km distance will start at 11:00 am, followed by the 24km race at 11:15, the 12km race at 11:30, and lastly, the Mini-Miner will take off at approximately 11:35. 

Riders will begin to finish around 1:00 pm, and the after-party will kick off at 2:00 pm when our live band begins their set in our Vendor Village at the Kinsmen Park field – local bike shops and food vendors will be on hand throughout the day. 

All proceeds from the event will help fund the Blacksheep Mountain Bike Club’s plans for expanding mountain biking opportunities in the community of Thunder Bay, Ontario.
